Loktak Lake
Blessed with an amazing variety of fauna and flora, 67% of the geographical area of manipur is hill tract covered forests. Depending on the altitute of the hill ranges, the forest range from tropical to sub alpine. The wet forest, the temperate forest and the pine forest sustain a host of rare and endemic plant and animal life. Orchids are found in abundance in Manipur.
48 km from Imphal is "Loktak Lake" and sendra island. Loktak lake is a fresh water lake that attracts many species of birds around the year. Part of it forms a rare ecosystem. The islands of loktak are unique as they float and comprise of marsh and grass. Situated on the fringes of Loktak lake is the "Keibul Lamjao National Park", habitat of the endangered dancing deer, the brow antlered deer(sangai) of manipur. It is the only floating National Park of the world
