I love fishing in typical Manipuri style. A childhood experience I always cherish still. The thought of fishing in Manipur really makes me nostalgic.

really heavy when wet. The hanggen (I don’t know what this is called in English, it’s the bamboo portion with an X shape to tie the fishing net) was made at home by my dad. He must have just made it plainly to make me happy and I still remember how he used to hate me going fishing. He wanted me to be other girls in the household to stay indoors, properly dress and studying. And on the other hand, I was totally opposite of what he expected from me, I love indulging in each and every thing I see.
I never got chanced to go fishing when my parents were home. Luckily my summer vacation used to be in July, a month with lots of rain in Manipur. How I used to wait for 9.30 a.m. everyday as my parents go to office at that time. The moment they are out from the house, I ran in the opposite direction which leads me to the paddy fields. The fishing during this period of the year is amazing as it is in the shallow waters in the paddy field, no big fish at this time, mostly tiny tiny ones. I used to fish whole day until it was time for my parents to come back home. After the summer vacation, my complexion was as good as that of an African.
